Ophelia inspired fine art portrait

Painting inspired wedding design for fine art loving brides

Influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite movement of the late 19th century, our team set out to inspire fine art-loving brides. We looked especially to later works by these artists, where 14th century style meets romantic English poetry. Together with some of the best central Ohio wedding vendors, we developed this stunning painting-inspired wedding design.

Captured on film by Jenna Powers, gorgeous fine art inspiration abounds in well curated details. Read on for more inspiring details of this fine-art inspired editorial.

Carefully curated, painting inspired wedding design: the details

A color palette of mauve, peach, and toasted pecan set the tone for an early fall wedding. In addition, pops of smokey lavender make the color scheme work for warmer weather, worthy of indian summer weddings. Consequently, the colors will inspire fine art and romance loving brides alike.

For brides seeking painting-inspired wedding design, Cheer Up Press came up with the perfect invitation suite. The wedding invitation features an antique crest design and trendy wax seal on handmade paper. And, drawing inspiration from leather-bound manuscripts, it includes a stunning letter-pressed leather piece. Brides looking for unique wedding invitations will be inspired by this gorgeous stationary set.

Painting Inspired Florals and a Unique Table setting

The captivating floral designs were a true star of this painting inspired wedding editorial. The designs feature an abundance of beautiful texture; black tomatoes and celosia provide an edgier aesthetic, while the addition of garden roses and cosmos soften the look. The lavish wedding bouquet was even more stunning in person. Katie’s creativity sets her apart as one of central Ohio’s best wedding florists.

To add rustic touches to the table setting, we used 19th century cutlery and heavy stone plates. In contrast, a rich wool gauze table-runner and delicate lavender glassware modernized the look. A light and airy floral arrangement subdued the overall look of the table-scape. Finally, black tomatoes and quail eggs added modern, quirky charm.

A gilded wedding cake, covered in fruit and adorned in quail eggs, alludes to the pre-raphealite’s commitment to naturalism.

Odylyne the Ceremony’s “Olivia” gown provided the perfect blend of simplicity and romance. It heightened the drama of the dark and romantic Quarry Chapel when paired with a classic mantilla veil. Finally, the bouquet was given dramatic floor length silk ribbon from The Lesser Bear.

Angie Warren did an incredible job translating our painting-inspired wedding design to the bridal hair and makeup. She first beautifully braided our model’s long red hair, then gently tousled it to give it an “undone” look. She then applied dewy, minimal makeup to mimic the look of Rosetti’s “Beata Beatrix” painting, and Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet.”

French altar candelabras served as a base for this stunning installation from florist Katie Carothers of Old Slate Farm.

Dreamy painting-like aesthetics

Probably my favorite moment of the shoot was this enchanting water scene. Inspired by paintings of Ophelia, we submerged our model in cool waters. The swirling silk and flower petals framed her beautifully in the water. The delicate lace robe from designer Girl and a Serious Dream looked dreamy immersed below the surface. Finally, the invitation clutched underwater captures the dream-like quality of this editorial. Above all, this styling decision is one of my favorite creative risks taken as an artist. This painting-inspired wedding design is sure to captivate and inspire fine-art loving brides everywhere.

Hamilton inspired wedding details

First, we chose a color pallet inspired by the musical: a neutral parchment color for Hamilton’s excessive writing, revolutionary American blues, and the tawny brown of Hamilton’s post-military coat. We also included the different colors associated with the Schuyler sisters. There are teal and robin’s egg blue for Eliza, rich pink for Angelica, and gold and yellow for Peggy.

For fun, Alexander and Eliza appear on place cards (with Angelica… and Peggy.) As if in preparation for a toast, there is a vignette with “may you always be satisfied” inscribed on parchment. One of Alexander’s letters to Eliza is written out and paired alongside a quill pen. The invitation suite includes antique postage featuring the Marquis de LafayetteLastlya beautiful Susie Saltzman engagement ring is pictured with a photo of The Grange, where Hamilton wed Eliza.

Hamilton’s wedding was in December of 1780. Our team curated antique Colonial pieces like a dressing mirror, English china, bone dice, a fan, and a musket to reflect that date. To keep it fresh, we joined these true antiques with period-inspired modern pieces, such as the engagement ring from Susie Saltzman and the beautiful handmade silk cravat from the Lesser Bear.

Hamilton inspired Florals

The ladies of State + Arrow and Old Slate Farm are responsible for the amazing florals. Both florists looked to American Colonial paintings for Hamilton Musical wedding inspiration, and used flowers that would have actually been available to Colonial brides. In order to honor the Hamilton’s December wedding date, floral designs included pomegranates and persimmons.

State + Arrow’s lush arrangements are imbued with the romance of the Hamilton story. A sweeping bouquet adorned with a wide silk ribbon is the envy of any bride. Meanwhile, viewers are transported to another world by the stunning installation of greenery and florals by Old Slate Farm. To create this look, Katie installed a tree in her living room to build from. Without a doubt, the florals from this day are some of the most stunning creations I have ever seen.

The dress and models were directly inspired by the musical and traditional colonial style. The Carolina Herrera dress was the perfect blend of modern simplicity and elegant colonial details. Our Eliza’s white hair color was trendy and modern, but also reminiscent of the powdered wig styles of the period.

Summer garden inspired wedding in Columbus, Ohio

Kathleen and Braden were such an incredible couple to style for. From the start, Kathleen hoped for a summer garden inspired wedding in the alleyway of Via Vecchia. With a green and white color palette, we set out to bring her vision of a summer garden inspired wedding to life.

First, Katie Reed of Old Slate farm used mock orange and unripe strawberries to create the perfect early summer vibe. Likewise, I opted to print Kathleen’s wedding signage on handmade cotton paper. I then mounted it to linen for a particularly fine art appeal. Finally, we added fresh greenery and florals to the signage to evoke a summer garden vibe. I especially loved the table numbers, complete with sprig of olive.

Read on to see how Katie’s vendors produced a gorgeous, garden inspired wedding in the middle of downtown Columbus, Oh. You’ll love Henry Photography’s beautiful images of Kathleen and Braden’s wedding day.
