Hamilton the Musical is coming to Columbus, Ohio. Rejoice!
Confession- I’m obsessed with the Hamilton musical. Because of that, I wanted to give other “Hamilton” obsessed brides modern, fine-art inspiration. I wanted to give them ideas they could incorporate in their own weddings. A group of talented, like-minded wedding vendors in Ohio joined me, and together we retold the Hamilton story through the lens of modern wedding planning. The results are unbelievably romantic. In fact, this Hamilton Musical wedding inspiration is one of my favorite creative wedding projects to date!
Read on to see how this wedding editorial captures the feel of a modern wedding and the surreal feeling of Revolutionary America brought to life by Hamilton on stage.

Hamilton inspired wedding details
First, we chose a color pallet inspired by the musical: a neutral parchment color for Hamilton’s excessive writing, revolutionary American blues, and the tawny brown of Hamilton’s post-military coat. We also included the different colors associated with the Schuyler sisters. There are teal and robin’s egg blue for Eliza, rich pink for Angelica, and gold and yellow for Peggy.

For fun, Alexander and Eliza appear on place cards (with Angelica… and Peggy.) As if in preparation for a toast, there is a vignette with “may you always be satisfied” inscribed on parchment. One of Alexander’s letters to Eliza is written out and paired alongside a quill pen. The invitation suite includes antique postage featuring the Marquis de Lafayette. Lastly, a beautiful Susie Saltzman engagement ring is pictured with a photo of The Grange, where Hamilton wed Eliza.

Hamilton’s wedding was in December of 1780. Our team curated antique Colonial pieces like a dressing mirror, English china, bone dice, a fan, and a musket to reflect that date. To keep it fresh, we joined these true antiques with period-inspired modern pieces, such as the engagement ring from Susie Saltzman and the beautiful handmade silk cravat from the Lesser Bear.

Hamilton inspired Florals
The ladies of State + Arrow and Old Slate Farm are responsible for the amazing florals. Both florists looked to American Colonial paintings for Hamilton Musical wedding inspiration, and used flowers that would have actually been available to Colonial brides. In order to honor the Hamilton’s December wedding date, floral designs included pomegranates and persimmons.
State + Arrow’s lush arrangements are imbued with the romance of the Hamilton story. A sweeping bouquet adorned with a wide silk ribbon is the envy of any bride. Meanwhile, viewers are transported to another world by the stunning installation of greenery and florals by Old Slate Farm. To create this look, Katie installed a tree in her living room to build from. Without a doubt, the florals from this day are some of the most stunning creations I have ever seen.

The dress and models were directly inspired by the musical and traditional colonial style. The Carolina Herrera dress was the perfect blend of modern simplicity and elegant colonial details. Our Eliza’s white hair color was trendy and modern, but also reminiscent of the powdered wig styles of the period.
